Now that I’m the homestretch of my pregnancy (only 3.5 weeks to go), it’s probably time to share my “go to” pregnancy favorites. I love lists like these because recommendations are super important, especially when it comes to important things like having a baby. Pregnancy can be a lot to take on but these 10 items have really worked for me and this baby bump of mine. I hope they will assist you in making your pregnancy a little more comfortable. After all, pregnancy is such a beautiful time and it can be enjoyable! Let’s get this list started, shall we?
Hunger is all-consuming and somewhat irritating during pregnancy. I tried to stick with eating 3 meals a day like normal but my doctor informed me during my 2nd trimester that I wasn’t eating enough and I needed a lot more protein. I’ve craved carbs so getting more protein seemed like a boring nuisance. My husband drinks protein shakes and I hate them. I knew that I needed to find a protein bar that I loved to accomplish my doctor’s orders. I tried a few and then I got hooked on KIND PLUS Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate + Protein bars. They’re a healthy & satisfying blend of peanuts and antioxidant-rich dark chocolate. Each bar contains 7 grams of protein which keeps me satiated in between meals. I have one in my purse at all times for when hunger strikes! These bars are wheat-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, and delicious. I am now getting enough protein for me and my baby and I’m actually enjoying it.
I started using Tarte’s Maracuja Oil right around the time that we announced to the world (a.k.a our Facebook friends) that we were expecting. I had already discontinued using my face products that contained retinol and other “no no” ingredients for pregnant women and I hadn’t found anything that wowed me. This stuff wowed me! I kept getting compliments on my pregnancy glow everywhere I went and I thought it was just my happy hormones but I soon realized that it was the oil. Maracuja oil is vitamin C-packed! It’s meant to awaken dull or dry skin, and the essential fatty acids promise to brighten lackluster cheeks. Furthermore, if your hormones have made your previously perfect skin a stranger to you, the oil’s antioxidants are a good way to soothe and heal problem areas. Best of all (well, besides the delicious smell) — this elixir is formulated without parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sufate, mineral oil or synthetic fragrances. I call it my pregnancy glow in a bottle!
Learning to sleep on your side can be challenging. I’m a stomach sleeper so I had to retrain 30 years worth of sleep habits upon my baby bump. Let me tell you . . . my pregnancy pillow has been a true lifesaver. I haven’t had very many problems with sleeping throughout my pregnancy and I think it’s because I started using this pillow the moment that the pee stick was dry. The pillow truly does provide full-body support. It has unique repositionable stuffing for optimal back and bump support and I love how it cradles my neck. Every part of me is comfortable while sleeping with this pillow and I may choose to sleep with it forever. Don’t tell my husband.
There are a lot of expensive and over-hyped stretch mark creams and butters out there. I’ve kept it simple by purchasing Palmer’s from my local drug store and I’m thrilled to report that I have yet to see one single stretch mark on my bump. Don’t let the low price tag fool you though, this tummy butter is an intensive treatment with a powerful combination of Vitamin E, Collagen, Elastin, Centella Asiatica, Sweet Almond Oil and Argan Oil. It’s paraben free, phthalate free, and hypoallergenic. Plus, the addition of Lavender is aromatically pleasing and soothing. What a relaxing nighttime treatment!
I’m not a big water drinker. My doctor scolded my about getting more protein and of course, drinking more water. The only way that I enjoy water is with fresh squeezed lemon or lime added. However, that’s not always convenient . . . until now. When I discovered Citrus Zinger, my water intake improved dramatically. Citrus Zingeris a unique water bottle designed for citrus fruits that allows you to press lemons, limes, and clementines directly into your water, creating deliciously flavored drinks that are all-natural and free of refined sugars and artificial ingredients. Just unscrew the bottom cup, twist/press a citrus half, and replace the bottom cup. The nutrients, flavors, and aromas are released into the water while the pulp and rind are kept at the bottom for steeping more flavor. It’s genius.
My breasts went from a D to a DD immediately upon getting pregnant. I purchased a couple of new bras initially but my mommy friends warned me that they would get even bigger throughout my pregnancy and after I gave birth. I was advised to only purchase “stretchy” nursing bras moving forward. I listened and I’m glad I did. I’ve tried a few different brands of nursing bras and I’m hooked on Cake. These wire-free nursing bras are decadently soft and smooth with a high thread-count knit. They are designed with strategic inner side slings and T-back construction which is supportive enough for day wear, and comfortable to sleep in. Plus, these bras have room without dealing with bunched up material until my breasts grow. The quick-release clasps will make nursing easy and prevent me from having to buy more bras once the baby is born. Get some Cake!
If you only buy one tank during your stay in Baby Bump Land, let it be this one. Blanqi’s Belly Support Tank replaces those bulky support belts and flimsy belly bands by holding up your unbuttoned pre-pregnancy pants. It also secures loose maternity bottoms that you haven’t grown into yet. I call that a win-win! Also, it has built-in belly and back support which has helped alleviate some of my back pain caused by pregnancy. Worried about getting too hot in this tank? Well, it’s high-performance fabric finish wicks moisture away from the body. Lastly, the under-bust design allows you to wear any bra during each trimester. Buy one and you’ll thank me.
8. Ginger Ale
One word comes to mind when I think of my first trimester. Nausea. The only relief I could find was in Ginger Ale. It really worked! Because I had a lot of nausea and thus needed to drink a lot of ginger ale, I made an effort to purchase the all natural stuff. Bruce Cost Fresh Ginger Ale in Original Ginger became my daily nausea remedy. It got me through those first 3 months. Thank you Bruce Cost!
I’ll admit it. I took the enormous prenatal vitamins that you swallow for the first 90 days of my pregnancy. It was miserable. They taste awful and they don’t go down easy. As soon as that pill bottle was empty, I picked up some Vitafusion Prenatal Gummy Vitamins. The gummies are great and they remind me of my favorite candy. Vitafusion makes the prenatal health part of pregnancy quite delightful.
10. Dry Shampoo
My energy level has been very low throughout my pregnancy. Doing simple things like hair and makeup everyday is pretty hard. I do still want to look pretty while preggo though. Luckily, I found The Morning After Kit by Drybar. The kit includes a terry cloth cloth shower cap and some dry shampoo to extend the life of my blowouts. Using these two products protects my style for a few days so I can wash, dry, and style my hair less. Unlike plastic shower caps, the terry cloth keeps out humidity and moisture while I shower. The rejuvenating dry shampoo absorbs excess oil and adds body to my hair between washes. Lightweight and easy to use, the shampoo’s micro powder blends in with hair color, leaving no white residue behind. Thanks to these two, I’m able to maintain a fab hairdo each and everyday for half of the effort. I’ll take that.
What’d you think of my pregnancy favorites? I’d love to hear some of your faves! Let’s talk it over in the comments. Mwah!
