Nothing says ‘I love you‘ like homemade treats. Your Valentine will be smitten over these heart-shaped cherry hand pies. They’re bite-sized delights with just the right amount of fruity, chewy and sweet!
All you need to make a basic cherry hand pie is canned cherry pie filling, prepared pie crust, an egg, lemon zest, and cinnamon. Sure you could make the pie crust from scratch but that’s not always ideal, at least it’s not for me in my current stage of motherhood. The good thing about these hand pies is that they taste like they were made from scratch, even if they weren’t, and taste is all that matters.
To give cherry hand pies that extra special touch, all you need is a heart-shaped cookie cutter. Make them into cute little hearts instead of circles and you’ve just stepped up your baking game, my friend. I’m sure your Valentine will appreciate it!
You don’t need a lot of time for this recipe. They can be baked from start to finish in only 20 minutes! Being that cherry hand pies are small and easy to do, these cuties are great to keep little kitchen helpers busy. My 2 year old loves to “help” and these are among her most favorite to make. In fact, we will be making some for Daddy’s Valentine gift next week. I can’t wait!
