You may remember my recent post about giving the gift of wireless to my granny for Christmas. Well, I’m back with an update. Let me set the setting for you. It’s Christmas Eve at my parents house and the entire family is there. This year we had about 25 people so the energy was high and everyone was having a lot of fun. I waited until we finished our annual Chinese Christmas Gift Exchange game and then I handed her the gift.
“This is a special gift Granny so I’d like for you to open now before we pass out presents”, I told her, “is that ok?”
“Ooh…ok!” she responded.
She is a very careful gift opener so I nearly died of anticipation while I waited for her to open up the gift. Part of me wanted her to rip off that paper and bow so that I could see the excitement on her face already.
When she realized that my husband and I got her a brand new smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G to be exact, she beamed from ear to ear. She has owned phones in the past but complained that the monthly bills always seemed to get higher and higher and they would creep up on her. I explained to her that she never has to worry about that with Walmart Mobile because it’s the best wireless plan. The plan costs only $40 per month, she can cancel at any time, and there are never any overage charges for minutes, texts, or data (web).
She was also pretty excited that we pre-paid for her first three months of service and gave her a $25 starter kit for activating her phone. After her three months of service that we gifted her runs out, her bill will always be $40 per month. No iffs ands or buts about it.
“I can definitely handle $40 per month,” she said, “this really is the best wireless plan.”
My husband walked her through activating her phone and managing her online account. She couldn’t believe how easy it was.
After a ton of hugs from Granny, Christmas Eve eventually wrapped up and all of the family went home to prepare for Christmas Day. I received a text from Granny on Christmas morning and it made me smile. It had been a long time since I had received a text from her but I have a feeling that I’ll be hearing from her a lot more often from now on and that is wonderful.
