A little over a week ago, I reached an important milestone. I was given my very first baby shower! There are only a few occasions in life besides prom, college graduation, her wedding, and the birth of her children that can be categorized as the most important events in a woman’s life. Her baby shower is one of them. I was blessed with a lovely baby shower (which I will be sharing on the blog next week) and I received some of the best baby shower gifts. What thoughtful friends and family I have!
I’ve attended tons of baby showers so I know that the gift buying process can be difficult sometimes. Therefore, I’d like to share some of my favorite gift ideas with you today using actual gifts from my own shower. If you stick to buying a baby gift in one of the 5 categories I’ve laid out in this blog post, you’re sure to pick a winner. Happy gifting!
The sentimental gift.
She even had my little girl’s name painted on the seat of the horse. My name was painted on the horse’s head over 30 years ago. This sentimental baby shower gift touched my heart. I can’t wait to see Annabelle enjoy this rocking horse like I did. What an amazing gift!
The practical gift.
Sentimental gifts are glorious but a mom also needs the items that she has registered for. We don’t spend days upon days obsessing over our baby registries for no reason. I was happy and relieved when I received a diaper genie at my baby shower! It’s a practical gift and that is wonderful.
The practicality was taken one step further when I received the diaper genie refills in addition to the genie itself. The diaper genie was one of the first gifts that I registered for and I’m now set for months after my baby arrives.
How about a spa day in exchange for purchasing Diaper Genie refills? Now through the end of the month (July 31, 2014), purchase 3 or more varieties of Diaper Genie refills in one transaction at Target and receive a $25 Spa Finder Wellness gift card. Simply save your receipt, visit http://bit.ly/1leqgU7 to send a photo of your receipt, and receive a reply with your $25 claim code to book your next spa appointment. Offer good while supplies last.
The wow factor gift.
If you are the baby shower attendee who likes to get the most oohs and aahs from the other guests, go for the “wow factor” gift. This gift is usually monogrammed or personalized in some way and is often a nursery decor item. One of the gifts that received such vocal compliments at my baby shower was a princess bow holder and personalized height chart. The hostesses were able to hang the bows that I received at the shower onto the princess bow holder and it was quite a lovely visual for guests. I couldn’t wait to get home and hang these items in Annabelle’s nursery! Plus, the gift giver was thoughtful enough to inquire about the theme of the nursery which is vintage princess so her decor gifts were absolutely perfect.
The gift for mom.
Yes, a shower is about the baby but it’s really hard being pregnant so spoiling the mom is a super sweet gesture too. A friend of mine had a sterling silver baby block bracelet made with my baby’s name on it for me to wear. It was pretty exciting to receive a gift that was just for me. I also loved the Mom book that I received. If you want to bring a unique and desired gift to a friend’s shower, consider a present that is just for her and no one else.
The handmade gift.
Receiving a handmade gift for your baby is the most precious thing for a mommy. Annabelle received a handmade quilt from her great-grandmother and an afghan crocheted by hand from a lady who watched me grow up in church. Both of these gifts are irreplaceable because hours of care and love went into each and every thread. I can’t express in words how much these 2 pieces mean to me. If your’e capable, something handmade is a tremendous gift to give.
Aren’t these amazing gifts? Whether you give her something practical or sentimental, mommies-to-be remember their baby showers for the rest of their lives. Put sincere thought into it and she’ll never forget your kindness.
